We caught up with Apurva Chamaria, Chief Revenue Officer at RateGain for a quick chat about what 2018 looks like for him.

1. What excites you right now in your personal or professional life?

I’ve just moved to a new role as Chief Revenue Officer of RateGain so am very excited about growing this TA Associates backed company to becoming the dominant SaaS player in travel and hospitality. We already have 12,000 global customers who trust us to help them grow their revenue. We have a great leadership team and fantastic colleagues in 12 countries around the world who are supercharged about disrupting the travel and hospitality industry. In my personal life, I have decided to work on my fitness in 2018 so that’s a huge focus area for me.

2. What’s the best thing that’s happened to you in 2017?

One of the best things that happened to me in 2017 was that Penguin Random House signed me as an author for my 2nd book called “Master Growth Hacking”. The book will hit the stands hopefully in April 2018 and do as well as the first book which became a best-seller.

3. What’s your professional story?

I started out working in media and advertising working as a journalist and a client servicing executive. It was a tremendously exciting place where I developed a love for brands and business. That led me to do an MBA from IMI, New Delhi. I did my summer internship with Ranbaxy and was one of the only 4 interns out of 80 to receive a pre-placement offer. I accepted this offer with delight as Ranbaxy was India’s best known and most regarded MNC and the role was in international business. I worked with them running country operations and sales in South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and the Philippines. In 2005 I could see technology starting to change the world rapidly, and joined HCL Technologies and was one of the earliest members who set up the marketing team. I grew through the organization and my last role at HCL Tech was the Global Head of Corporate Marketing. I was lucky enough to hire well and build a world-class team which made HCL the fastest growing brand in the Interbrand top Indian brands list for 2 years in a row (No. 17 in 2016) HCL was also ranked at No.378 and valued at 4.4 Bn US$ in the Brand Finance Global 500 2017 league table. Between 2013-2017, HCL campaigns won 110 prestigious global and regional marketing awards. In my 12 years at HCL, I performed various leadership roles including being a part of CEO’s Vineet Nayar’s office and Sales Director at HCL America playing an integral role in scaling the company from 700 Mn to 8 Bn US$.

I recently moved on to a business role again as the Chief Revenue Officer of RateGain, one of world’s leading SaaS company’s in the travel and hospitality space serving over 12,000+ customers across 100+ Countries. In my role at RateGain, I lead sales, account management, marketing and alliances across the world. RateGain is a TA Associates funded company which is disrupting travel and hospitality.

4. What is one of your defining moments in your career/personal space?

I have always looked to challenge myself and go beyond whatever I have done so I have a long list of defining moments in my career and personal space where I have gone beyond my comfort zone into the courage zone. I believe these are what make life such an interesting journey and keep one intellectually and emotionally challenged.
