Brands are known for having celebrities endorse their products. Over the years we’ve seen many celebrities as brand ambassadors from Katrina Kaif for Xiaomi India to P.V. Sindhu for Nokia. Brands follow the trends strictly, ensuring that their brand ambassadors fit their image, and are usually either on top of their game and fame or have stood the test of time. When they change their brand face, they usually opt for someone younger than their current ambassador. However, Vivo has recently announced their new brand ambassador as Aamir Khan, replacing the ‘Padmaavat’ actor Ranveer Singh.

The ‘Dangal’ star has already featured in their new campaign, which seems to be different in tone from their previous ads that starred Ranveer Singh. While the ads featuring Ranveer had romantic tints to it, or displayed an edge, the ads featuring Aamir have so far been more humorous. Of course, Aamir isn’t the sole protagonist of these ads that also feature a cat and dog, who appear to detest each other.

The war between cats and dogs is clearly still on as seen in this video. How has this been kept under the wraps though? Clearly, it’s because of Vivo V9 which can ‘focus only on what’s beautiful’ and blur out the ugly.

The cat and dog war has escalated to a new level: the destruction of property. Do you think their owners might get a little upset? Well, Aamir Khan clearly isn’t. And whoever is on the other end of that phone is none the wiser thanks to Vivo V9’s Bokeh mode that can blur out the background.

Paul Writer’s Take:

Of course, we’re wondering the same thing as everyone else: why the change of face? Is it about age, talent or credentials? Ranveer Singh is clearly the current flavor and the talk of the town is that he’s a talented and passionate actor. But we all know Aamir Khan is too. What does Aamir Khan bring to the table that Ranveer Singh doesn’t? Or is that even the question we should be asking?

Perhaps the question should be do the new ads advertise the product effectively? Certainly seems like the ad has got the right mix of color, humor and fame. The product is also highlighted, and the ads are no longer than 30 seconds making it truly short and sweet.

  1. Amir Khan caters to a different audience. Ranveer Singh has his own following. Its unlikely there is a fan following overlap. The change of face could be to cater to a more mature segment.. Amir is projected as a thinking actor and one who does what ever he does with a purpose. Ranveer on the other hand has a persona of being spontaneous, young, impulsive and to some extent outlandish.. ( in his dress sense)
