Bangalore, April 5’ 2015 –Comic Con India hosted city’s biggest pop culture event – ‘Bangalore Comic Con 2015’ with double the floor size and entertainment this year! There was a spectacular line-up of events including International Celebrity Guest appearances, Experiential activities, Fans sessions, Cosplay, Launches and much more. Spread across 80000 sq feet gross as compared to last year’s 40000 sq feet, it received accolades from participants and fans from across all age groups. The 3 day convention took place at White Orchid Convention Centre from April 3-5’ 2015.
Bangalore Comic Con 2015 hosted one of its kind, interactive and experiential over 50 Hours of Programming through panels, launches, gaming, video hangouts and more. There were around 200 participants from across the world.
Huge Attraction at this year’s show were the two Internationally acclaimed Actors, Daniel Portman, best known for his role as Podrick Payne in the award-winning HBO fantasy drama series ‘Game of Thrones’ and Natalia Tena, known for her roleof Tonks in the Harry Potter films and Osha in Game of Thrones. They both took part in special sessions, signings ((Photographs & Autographs) and were seen speaking to Fans. Both Natalia and Daniel will be seen in the upcoming Season 5 of Game of Thrones, which premieres at the same time as its U.S. premiere on April 13 at 6:30 am IST, with a repeat telecast on the same day at 10pm, on HBO Defined, 100% Ad Free. For the first time ever, the most iconic HBO original will simulcast across 170 countries.

Mark Millar is the writer of the New York Times bestselling novel Wanted. His other works include Kick-Ass series, The Secret Service, Jupiter’s Legacy, Nemesis, Superior, Super Crooks, American Jesus, MPH, Starlight, and Chrononauts. Wanted, Kick-Ass, Kick-Ass 2 and The Secret Service (as Kingsman: The Secret Service) have been adapted into feature films, and Nemesis, Superior, Starlight, War Heroes, and Chrononauts are in development at major studios. Mark has been an Executive Producer on all his movie adaptations and is currently creative consultant to Fox Studios on their Marvel slate of movies.
Greg Capullo is a self taught Illustrator and the current artist on the best-selling and highly acclaimed BATMAN series for DC Comics. Prior to that, he was best known for his 80 issue run on Image Comics’ SPAWN, created by Todd McFarlane. Other popular comics work includes Marvel Comics X-FORCE and QUASAR. He is also the creator of The Creech, a Sci-Fi/Horror comic published by Image Comics. Greg has provided art for Blizzard Entertainment’s World of Warcraft, contributed lead character designs for the the award winning HBO animated SPAWN series, was the cover artist for many popular musical groups including Korn and Disturbed, and worked behind the scenes on many projects ranging from toy design to video games for TME.
Ron Marz, the celebrated writer known for his work on titles such as Silver Surfer, Green Lantern, Marvel vs DC, Batman/Aliens and Witchblade. was joined by artist Abhishek Malsuni, as they talked about their ongoing John carter: Warlord of Mars series.
There also was a first of its kind, special chat with Vandana Verma from NASA via Skype on space exploration (especially Mars).
One of the other main attractions at BCC 2015 was the Game of Throne’s special Photo-op Booth. Comic Con India had officially tied up with HBO to bring the Throne replica exclusively at Bangalore Comic Con. There was a Throne replica as a special photo – op booth where fans & visitors could get their pictures clicked.
Cosplay (Costume Contest), another major attraction at Comic Con India, continued to give assured prizes to everyone in costume. Comic Con India had created 5 categories to increase one’s chances of winning gifts. Each day, one winner was chosen from each of the five categories:
1. Comic book/graphic novel
2. Animated Series/Movie
3. Manga/Anime
4. Sci-Fi/Fantasy
5. Gaming
All 3 days, One lucky winner out of the chosen 5 won A Trip to Thailand & a chance to enter in Indian Cosplay Championship!
For the first time ever, Comic Con India Awards ceremony (an initiative of Comic Con India) was hosted in Bangalore during the main convention itself, on the second day of the convention, i.e. Saturday 4th April 2015. CCI Awards honored ‘Aabid Surti’ – A National Award Winning Indian Author, Artist, Cartoonist and Playwright, with the Lifetime Achievement Award this year. He personally came and received his Award and shared his experiences with fans.
Aabid Surti on receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award, said, “ I call CCI lifetime achievement award a rare event because only Comic Con India can think of honoring Creators of Comic characters and Cartoonists every year. For me this award is more precious than any ‘Padma’ award.”
Also, Comic Con India set up an exclusive IESL Gaming Arena with Xtreme Gaming for audience at Bangalore Comic Con this year. Spread across 200 sq meter, the gaming area was a huge hit amongst gaming and tech fans at the event. With a total prize pool of 1.5 lac rupees, the main tournament was around DOTA 2 for teams of gamers. For regular visitors as well as gamers, there were casual gaming competitions on Fifa 14 and Counter strike GO.
For the sheer love for Comics, over 11 new titles got launched at the convention. These were, Shaitaan by Holy Cow Entertainment, Sirji Comics by The Literary Seminary, Mystri PI by Graphic India, Kaal by Aayumi Productions, Chronicles of Ideapreneurs by HCL, Palm’s Foster Home For Peculiar, Stories by Jellyfish Publications , TnT (Taranath Tantrik) by Speech Bubble Entertainment, The Traversers, Memoirs by The Old Tome, Leo & Capri by Aa Foundation, Ground Zero Three by Meta Desi Comics and Parshu Battlefield by Orange Radious.
Amar Chitra Katha, the pioneers in India for comic books and illustrated works of literature, had kept amazing surprises for their fans. They had photobooth, Quizzes, Storytelling competitions and much more at Bangalore Comic Con .
TVF ‘Live Out Loud’ , the most popular Indian channel on YouTube were there performing at Bangalore Comic Con as well. Their funniest acts won them thundering applause!
Not just that, Graphic India conducted a preview of the 2nd Stan Lee & Graphic India’s creation – Chakra The Invincible. The animated film will be the second film of three films that will premiere on Cartoon Network. There was a video of Stan Lee’s Storytelling secrets specially played at BCC 2015 too.
There were International Exhibitors like Marvel, DC & Dark Horse Comics among others who brought international content from all across the globe, especially for Bangalore.
At the convention, there was some Awesome Anime & Manga Merch from Japanese Merchandiser IINE, along with the best and most exclusive International merchandisers like Kidrobot, NECA, Hot Toys, Mimobots, Funko and many more from across the globe. Also, there were exclusive Indian merchandisers including Band Box, Wacom, Art Beat, Bewakoof Brands, Hysteria, Wear Your Opinion, Kudi Firang, Planet Superheroes, F Gali, Sky Goodies, Bollyscope, Lazy Ninja, Graphicurry, Below the Belt and lots more!!
