Bangalore based taxi-aggregation start-up TaxiForSure has brought an interesting twist to awareness against drunken-driving through their ‘Beer Pong Nights’. The company engages with pub-goers in popular pubs and breweries of Bangalore through various interactive games, including Beer Pong and provides taxis to drop them home safely.

Speaking about the initiative, Co-Founder and Director of TaxiForSure, Aprameya Radhakrishna, said, “We realize that drunk driving is a major problem in India. Stricter rules and regulations have done their bit to curb the menace but changing mind set isn’t that easy. So we decided to speak to pub-goers in their own language and raise awareness about the issue. By engaging the audience through Beer Pong Nights, and providing free and discounted rides to winners and participants, we emphasize that taxis are the safest way to travel after an evening of drinking.”

The initiative gathers significance considering that India accounts for about 10% of road crash fatalities worldwide according to World Health Organisation. A report by International Road Federation states that As many as 8,090 lives were lost in India to drunken driving over the past three years, with Bangalore alone contributing about 10% of them.

Currently TaxiForSure conducts Beer Pong Nights every Friday / Sunday in popular pubs and breweries in Bangalore. The campaign will reach Hyderabad, Delhi and Pune by the end of September. The next steps in TaxiForSure’s campaign to make nightlife safe in metros include providing free breathalyzers to pubs and increasing their fleet of taxis. Pubs like Toit, Vapour, Hoppipolla, TheBiere Club have already partnered with TaxiForSure for Beer Pong Nights. The company announces the date and venue of these events on their Facebook and Twitter page every week.

With ease of booking provided by TaxiForSure app, pub-goers can now take a taxi and avoid drunken driving. TaxiForSure claims that it takes under 15 seconds to book a taxi on their app. The app is available on Android, iOS and Windows stores, providing access to thousands of taxis in seven Indian cities in less than 15 seconds.
